Are dogs allowed in national parks in Tasmania?
According to the Parks and Wildlife Service Tasmania, dogs and other pets are not allowed into most of Tassie’s 19 National Parks and numerous reserves unless authorised. That being said, there are still a few parks and reserves where well-behaved dogs are welcome to explore. These include:
- Temma and Sandy Cape campsite in Arthur-Pieman Conservation Area

- Some areas of Coles Bay Conservation Area
- Snug Tiera Nature Recreation Area
What is the best month to visit Tasmania?
Summer is arguably the best time of year to visit, according to Tasmania.com. Unlike the rest of Australia, summer on the island state is quite moderate, with the average temperature ranging between 20 and 24 degrees Celsius along the coast; perfect weather for outdoor activities like swimming, picnicking and hiking.
But that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t visit during the other seasons. Autumn is a great time for sampling Tasmania’s impeccable local produce and wine, while spring is great for outdoor activities and enjoying the array of flowers in bloom at the Bloomin’ Tulips Festival. Winter is naturally the coldest, wettest time of the year, but that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t consider a winter getaway; there are a number of festivals on during the off-season, including Tasmania’s mid-winter festival Dark Mofo, while outdoorsy activities like stargazing and hiking can still be enjoyed – just be sure to pack warm!
